Wellington Museum
Collective Exhibition "Suffrage in Stitches"
Volunteer Photographer
Wellington, New Zealand
2020
A collaborative project between Vinnies Re Sew and the community. 546 individual makers with links to New Zealand have recreated the 1893 suffrage petition through fabric, stories and conversations.
The extraordinary textile work reflects the physical size of the original suffrage petition and celebrates through stitching the lives of the woman petitioners of 1893 and beyond. Wellington Museum has supported us from the start - providing us with space for workshops and the Flux Gallery as an exhibition space.
Carolina Angelica Prato-Casanova of Natural Macro Photography, with the help of equipment loaned by Woolf Photography and Cut the Mustard, kindly donated hundreds of hours of time to photograph the individual panels for this site.
