Ata…" Morning, Form, Shape, Semblance, Reflected Image, Shadow (of a human)
Wellington, New Zealand
2022
This project focuses on seemingly trivial aspects, such as the words and tone used in conversations. In Māori, "Ata" means Morning, Form, Shape, Semblance, Reflected Image, or Shadow (of a human). An ellipsis consists of three evenly spaced periods, indicating the omission of words or suggesting an incomplete thought.
These video portraits offer a distinctive perspective of people through the reflections in their eyes. Macro photography enables me to capture the details of life, such as my subjects' eyes and what they observe. Witnessing the beauty and reality of our environment reflected in their eyes fills me with profound wonder and appreciation for life as our eyes reveal our values.
This exhibition is a testament to the power of friendship, which has been a driving force behind its creation, dedicated to my grandmothers.
I aim to convey my perception of wonder in small and large details, illustrating the principle of "as above, so below" and celebrating the joy of daily miracles that evoke an eternal sense of gratitude.
